PAINTING @ Chai Chee 2010!
28 August 2010 - Cockroaches, bedbugs and the smell of urine-stained floor greeted some 14 youth volunteers in a service project initiated by the Youth Ministry. Assisting the Kaki Bukit Seniors’ Activity Centre the second time in 2 years, volunteers this year helped to clean and paint a one-bedroom apartment at Chai Chee belonging to a 95-year-old lady recuperating in hospital.
Brand new mattresses and bed frames were also delivered to appreciative residents at four other units, with part of its funding provided by our parish’s Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. This also enabled us to install new curtains in some of these apartments.
For participants of this project, many of whom were 15-year-old teenagers from the annual Confirmation 3 Service Attachment programme, this was a valuable experience. According to Tessa Tang, the thing that struck them most was the condition of the house when they stepped in.
Said Naomi Ho, "It was a very eye-opening experience, as I never had chance to do something like this before. To help a 95-year-old lady with something she was unable to do, lifted my spirits to know that we made a change in her living conditions. It was fun too."
Another volunteer, Elizabeth Choo, adds, “After the project, I realized how lucky I am and how important a family is.”

of "Babette's Feast".
Open to all young people & young
adults aged 13 to early 30s!

OLPS Saint Pius X Altar Servers Society 48th Anniversary Celebrations & Investiture
The Altar Servers from St Pius X Altar Servers Society had their 48th anniversary celebrations and investiture at the 4.45 pm Mass, followed by a post-Mass fellowship in the Verbist Hall!

The Confirmation 3 Service Attachment begins in the week of 17-19 July and for 9 weeks, various confirmation 3 youths will be attached to our 5 youth ministries: Youth Arise Ministry (YAM), Youth Music Ministry (YMM), Genesis Ministry, Youth Mentors and Revelation Generation (RG) and affiliated youth ministry, Chinese Legion of Mary. Treasure Hunt @ Pasir Ris Park
Catholeague organised a cycling + Treasure Hunt @ Pasir Ris Park on Sunday, 11 July 2010, from 3pm – 9pm. The night ended with wonderful games, captain's ball, ultimate frisbee, taboo and great BBQ provided by Gabriel!

Canteen Run

@ The Canteen!
This round, YMM and Genesis worked together
for our canteen Run.
What
is this?
No it's not a "RUN".... It is
our quarterly Canteen Duty for our parish
of OLPS. We will help out to sell food and
tidy up the canteen for each MASS on this
Sunday Morning. It is sometimes tiring but
immensely fun when we realise how it brightens
someone's day with the food & drinks
that we provide. |
